Quick bio on Terence Almond (Art History).
Back in September 2005 while watching TV in my lounge, with a friend, he suddenly piped up, "You need some art on your walls mate" (I will admit they were completely bare and boring - magnolia what more can I say). With that we decided to switch off the TV and check out what was on offer at a local shop. After finding exactly what I wanted (a very basic seaside beach view printed on canvas) I was informed it would cost me £450 - for a print! After picking myself off the floor I said, "sorry but I could do it myself for less". And there stood the challenge.
Several weeks later I managed to purchase some canvas board, a few oil paints, easel, palette and something called a marle stick or something. Then all I needed was the subject and the inspiration. For Christmas my sister bought me a Jack Vettriano book as i'd expressed an interest in his art; I loved it and to be honest a bit shocked as all I'd seen of his work was the unbrella side of his art lets say. Then at 11pm on the 27th December 2005 inspiration hit me and I was off. Within 2 hours I'd completed my first painting a rather basic copy of Vettriano's - "Dance me to the end of love" (Oh do I hate oils).
Feeling excited by my first attempt and praise from my family and friends I soon completed my second (Vettriano - "Mad Dogs") and my 3rd paintings (Vettriano - "Bye, Bye Baby"). Half way through my forth painting (waiting for the dam oils to dry), I thought I'd try actual canvas as I used my last board. And what better than to attempt a copy of Vettriano's "The Singing Butler" split artistically (cough) over two canvases.
No sooner had I started I received a major 6 month contract, hence pictures 4 and 5 where temporary placed on hold. It wasn't until early October 2006 I was able to pick up the brushes again. Since then I've completed quite a few paintings, and am now struggeling to find wall space for them. Hence I've taken my friends advice and decided to try and sell some (hopefully I'll find a gallery somewhere that could represent me).
